New
to me, Sikhara appear to be skilled
composers as I found out by receiving this
fabulous cdr release from Jason at
Mandarangan Recordings. Sikhara approach
music/sound with primitive soul, esoteric
beauty and strong, fortified rhythms...
Without Limbs winds through the various
tributaries of life's river engaging in
meditative "beds" of "cruise
control" electronics, (giving Keith
Levine a supportive wink of approval) while
setting the stage the next human analysis.
Forceful and consistent throughout, their
blend of competent drumming and layered
atmospherics (quite surreal at times) kept
my interest from beginning to end of this
offering. Standouts include In The Circle,
Buried Beside (early P.I.L. fans of the
"flowers of romance" era please
take note) and Ajana (which takes its
position hypnotically, crafting a docile yet
deadly whirlpool of rotating beats and lunar
cushions being pulled to the center of all
other directions while turning itself inside
out). The work is reverent and earned my
respect after one listen. Eric Wood / BASTARD NOISE / SHORT, FAST + LOUD! MAGAZINE
