..:: reviews ::..

This is a big one. Your odds are good that when you buy a compilation that has 2 discs and 30 different artists, something is going to strike your fancy. I found something I liked on the first track. FOSC plays a creepy dark atmospheric piece that got the teeth clenching and the skin to chill. It was a great choice of a first track to make me sit up and listen. Later, by track 7 I was having fun with the homespun techno sounds of Deathsquad. They jammed. Directly after that a drone/noise piece from Zweitschuldner made me think a bit. Track 10 was a harsh noise barrage by one of Neo-Zine’s old favorites Insomnia. I have got a lot of old material from that artist that I horde like gold. Fuck The Facts (another old favorite) makes a strange experimental appearance closer to the end of the first platter, as does EHI with a track that could qualify as both an atmospheric drone and maybe a harsh noise. We’d better get to the second one before I run out of review room. I’m happy. The next piece of plastic opens up with Bastard Noise. These vets always have something interesting to hear. Some of the better works show up on part 2. Nequaquam Vaccum (experimental percussion), Die Grenzlandreiter (looping, sound collage, political message), Ras.Al.Ghul (almost new-age), ( r ) : Permanent.Fatal.Error (thrilling atmospheric / electronic experiment with heavy breathing…eeps!), Moulttrigger (sound like an attempt at electronic world music from a made up country), Tremor (depressing loops and oddities), and Sochkhere (who play an electronic soundtrack of grandeur and prestige.) Apologies to the bands that I did not mention. You know that if a reviewer spends this much time on a compilation, it is pretty special. I’d be happy to get an interview from any of the artists that I mentioned above.  NEO-ZINE
